Individual Volunteer Opportunities
North Raleigh Ministries offers volunteer opportunities for individuals in both our Crisis and Development Center, where you will experience the direct impact of our mission, and in our Thrift Shoppes, where you will experience community members donating and shopping with a purpose.
Current Opportunities in our Crisis and Development Center:
- Food Pantry Assistants needed Tuesday and Thursday from 2pm-5pm: Support the day to day operations of our food pantry by processing food, packing groceries, and assisting clients with their orders.
- Food Pantry Substitute- Do you need a more flexible schedule? Fill in for our regular volunteers in the pantry at least two times a month. These shifts vary in time, day of week, and duties.
- Journey Program Volunteer – Support the individuals and families engaged in this Coaching program by providing hospitality and/or child care on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 pm (next session: May 7th-July 23rd)
Current Opportunities in our Thrift Shoppes:
- Production Volunteers needed Monday – Saturday
- Sales Floor Volunteers needed Monday – Saturday
Harvest Plaza:
- Production Volunteers needed Tuesday – Friday
- Sales Floor Volunteers needed Tuesday – Saturday
- Donation Door Volunteers needed on Saturday
Individual Volunteer Requirements
- All volunteers must go through our application and orientation process and be placed in an open volunteer position prior to volunteering
- We request a 6 month, weekly, time commitment from our individual volunteers
- Certain volunteer positions (those working one-on-one with clients) require a background check
- All volunteers must be at least 11 years of age and youth aged 11-15 must be accompanied by an adult
- All volunteer roles require standing, lifting and/or pushing carts
- All volunteers must wear closed toed shoes and adhere to any other position specific dress requirements
Group Volunteer Opportunities
North Raleigh Ministries offers volunteer opportunities for groups in both our Crisis and Development Center, where you will experience the direct impact of our mission, and in our Thrift Shoppes, where you will experience community members donating and shopping with a purpose.
Opportunities in our Crisis and Developments Center :
What you can expect: An overview of our mission and work, a tour of the food pantry operations, and hands-on experience processing and packing groceries (we highly encourage groups to consider bringing items from our most needed food pantry items list when they arrive to volunteer)
Time Commitment: Minimum of 2 hours
Group Availability: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 10:30am and 4:30pm and Wednesday between 2pm and 7pm
Opportunities in our Thrift Shoppes:
What you can expect: An overview of our mission and work, a tour of the thrift operations, and hands-on experience sorting through donating goods and/or stocking and organizing the sales floor.
Time Commitment: Minimum of 2 hours
Group Availability: Tuesday-Saturday between 9am and 2pm
Group Volunteer Requirements
- Group volunteer opportunities must be scheduled in advance and all participants must sign a waiver prior to volunteering
- All volunteers must be at least 11 years of age and youth aged 11-15 must be accompanied by an adult
- All volunteer roles require standing, lifting and/or pushing carts
- All volunteers must wear closed toed shoes and adhere to any other position specific dress requirements
- We can accommodate groups of 3 to up to 20 people
